About The Position

The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Coordinator and pre-hospital coordinator will act as the liaison to affiliated EMS and pre-hospital agencies servicing the health care system catchment area. The EMS Coordinator will be responsible for using critical thinking skills, coordinates pre-hospital communications with EMS Providers, and enhances the continuum of care by facilitating the flow of the patient from the pre-hospital setting, through the acute care setting and back to the community. This role works with team members and administration to improve customer satisfaction and maximize results within the emergency department and throughout the hospital. The EMS Coordinator demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to work process change, makes decisions and takes appropriate actions to solve problems. They originate, develop, or implement new methods to accomplish objectives by meeting the needs of our customers. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardio Life Support certification.
  • NREMT-P or RN preferred.
  • EMT-P or LP required.
  • 5 years working knowledge of EMS process and EMT/Paramedic scope of practice.
  • Required experience in a leadership position within a fire department/EMS agency.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Prior experience in a sales/business development role preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the liaison to affiliated EMS and pre-hospital agencies servicing the health care system catchment area.

  • Originate, develop, or implement new methods to accomplish objectives by meeting the needs of our customers.
  • Support the mission, vision, values and strategic goals of Methodist Health System.
  • Assist Stroke/Cardiac/Trauma Coordinators as needed.
  • Provide educational assistance to local EMS providers.
  • Coordinate paramedic CEs quarterly for ED paramedics as needed.
  • Assist Materials Specialist with medical equipment training.
  • Serve as hospital representative for EMS school activities, EMS student clinical scheduling and contracts.
  • Maintain all records of educational activities EMS/Emergency Department Complaints.
  • Receive and investigate complaints from EMS Providers, MHS Staff regarding EMS concerns, patient's complaints with EMS concerns, and family/visitors’ complaints regarding EMS related issues.
  • Initiate and complete follow-up interviews as needed.
  • Provide and report all EMS related complaints to ED Administration as needed.
  • Assist ED and Hospital Administration with EMS and ED related research to improve EMS/ED relationships and hospital through put process.
  • Research EMS and ED EMS volume stats for monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.
  • Create & Maintain EMS Dashboards.
  • Report on pertinent research to ED Administration.
  • Attend Chest Pain Committee meetings.
  • Attend Hospital Community Liaison Meetings.
  • Attend Methodist Health System - Semi-annual EMS Meetings.
  • Participate and attend North Central Texas - Trauma Regional Advisory Committee (NCT-TRAC) Meetings.
  • Attend any EMS/Fire Dept. related events or meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate, plan and host meetings and nursing /EMS conferences.
  • Improve and maintain a good working relationship with EMS Providers through communication, collaboration, and education.
  • Meet with EMS/Fire Dept. leadership teams and other EMS Liaison quarterly per year as needed.
  • Conduct EMS/Fire Department visits daily.
  • Follow up with EMS patient’s outcomes for all STEMI, trauma and CPR's, code stroke activations.
  • Obtain copies of EMS reports.
  • Maintain EMS lounge and EMS printing equipment such as daily checks, stocking and upkeep of room and equipment & appliances in rooms.
  • Maintain storage of EMS equipment and facilitate the return of all EMS equipment left at the ED.
  • Assist EMS Services with ongoing quality assurance processes as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between the ED staff and EMS for questions and concerns regarding clinical and professional interactions.
  • Ensure that EMS Services provides the appropriate documentation of each patient brought to the ED.
  • Work with ED Leadership and Emergency Management Department to assist in developing mock MCI drills and other mock drills.
  • Work in the Emergency Department assisting in patient care and within the scope of practice when the ED is experiencing high acuity or volume and/or at the request of the ED Manager.
  • Work with Attending ED physicians.
  • Demonstrate the key elements of service excellence and MHS core values.
  • Lead challenging conversations and successfully deal with day-to-day interactions with patients, families, visitors and customers in a positive consistent manner i.e., physicians, hospital staff etc.
  • Maintain a calm empathetic, controlled approach at all times and consistently project an image of Methodist Health System in a positive manner.
  • Assist Emergency Department Educator with staff training.
  • Perform education on Code STEMI, Code Stroke, MCI, & Trauma drills.
  • Administer LifeNet - Operations and Training.
  • Administer EMS electronic medical records.
  • Maintain MCI Disaster Drill closet and equipment.
  • Respond to CODE Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) when available while on duty.
  • Assist the ED Manager with the overseeing of the Code MERT policy and response.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards for Code MERT's.
  • Collect and oversee the documentation on all Code MERT's.
  • Maintain & oversee the ED patient Follow up program.
  • Follow current Follow-up SOP.
  • Maintain and improve a good working relationship with Air Based, Fire Based, Private, and Hospital Based EMS Providers through communication, education, and public relation events.
  • Research and attend EMS educational informative and marketing initiatives that would improve patient care process and EMS/Hospital relationships.
  • Match EMS records with hospital medical records as needed.
  • Follow up on EMS patients transported to Methodist Southlake Medical Center as needed for process improvement.
  • Receive and investigate complaints from EMS Providers, MHS Staff, patients, relatives of patients, and visitors on EMS related issues.
  • Report all complaints to ED/Hospital Administration.
  • Perform duties within the scope of practice as an Emergency Department Technician as needed.
  • Perform any other tasks EMS related assigned by Hospital Administration.
  • Provide administrative responsibility of product line marketing to all regional fire departments determined by executive team.
  • Manage personnel in fire stations that will encourage EMS to bring patients to MHS services by communicating changes, new equipment and technology and other services offered.
  • Continually plan strategies and quota visits to fire stations per month.
  • Create reports to monitor EMS utilization trends and communicate that information to executive team.
  • Tour new fire department command staff around hospital and existing command staff as new facilities/amenities are created.
  • Serve as liaison between fire stations and MHS departments to help assist with operational concerns and opportunities for improvement: Obtain feedback from fire stations on operational issues; identify needs and opportunities for improvement to hospital departments and administration.
  • Assure follow-up with communication from the hospital back to the fire department.
  • Build positive hospital-fire department relations through station visits, telephone contacts and prompt attention to fire department needs and concerns.
  • Communicate contacts with fire departments and their crew through meetings with appropriate director or Vice President.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with fire departments on behalf of the hospitals for the purpose of increasing utilization of emergency department services and building fire department loyalty.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
