EMS Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist
About The Position
Wake County EMS is excited to announce the expansion of its Quality Improvement office to better serve the residents and visitors of Wake County. As a Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist, you will work closely with the Medical Directors, Clinical Quality Officer and Clinical Quality Improvement Supervisor to conduct quality improvement and assurance efforts of Wake County EMS. You will execute quality improvement projects, identify clinical concerns, help develop education for field staff, and work with other divisions to respond to requests for EMS Department data and information. Wake County EMS is a cutting-edge emergency medical services system that is responsible for providing EMS services throughout Wake County including within each of the county’s 12 local municipalities. We responded to over 140,000 requests for 911 EMS services in 2025. The Division of Medical Affairs, which includes the quality improvement activities of Wake County EMS, includes two full-time EMS Physicians and our Advanced Practice Paramedic program. Requirements
- Associate's degree or equivalent in EMS or healthcare related field; OR mathematics, statistics, or a related field; OR quality improvement or a related field
- Two years cleared in the Wake County EMS System OR a similar sized, high volume 911 transporting EMS system; OR demonstrated prior experiences in quality assurance, quality improvement, or healthcare improvement activities
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working with large data sets from multiple sources
- Ability to integrate multiple data sets into informative dashboards
- Knowledge of healthcare improvement processes
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in EMS or healthcare related field; OR mathematics, statistics, or a related field; OR quality improvement or a related field
- Prior experience as a Wake County Advanced Practice Paramedic; OR prior demonstrated experiences with SQL, PowerBI, Python, ESO ePCR ecosystem, Snowflake, or other data platforms
- North Carolina EMT/AEMT/Paramedic certification
- Healthcare quality improvement/patient safety certification (Example: IHI Open School Basic Certificate, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, Certified Professional in Patient Safety, Lean Six Sigma, etc.)
- Knowledge of SQL, PowerBI, Python, ESO ePCR ecosystem, Snowflake, or other data platforms
Responsibilities
- Gather and review clinical data to ensure safe and appropriate delivery of clinical care
- Review patient care reports as proscribed by the Medical Directors, Clinical Quality Officer or other staff
- Identify trends in clinical care which require improvement, and work with others within the division and department to develop plans to execute that improvement
- Provide direct constructive feedback to EMS staff in the form of written communication regarding patient care
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Quality Officer and others to identify, create and maintain clinical measurements, reports and documentation
- Develop dashboards or other reporting methods which integrate single and multiple sources of data to provide insight into individual provider and system wide clinical performance
- Perform follow up evaluations of data to ensure appropriate data use, integrity and validation
