The EMS Chief is a high-profile leader who is responsible for all aspects (i.e., operations, community relations and liaison) to state and federal governmental agencies focusing on emergency preparedness, emergency response, disaster recovery of EMS. The EMS Chief is service-oriented, leads by example, and is a peer to first responder Chiefs. They are responsible for reducing barriers to care, improving quality, and increasing resource availability for the people that San Juan Regional EMS serves. The EMS Chief effectively motivates and encourages people to perform at their best and in alignment with industry standards. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license and eligible for San Juan Regional drivers’ insurance
  • Five (5) years’ clinical experience on an Advanced Life Support level ambulance
  • Ten (10) years’ experience EMS-related leadership experience
  • Three (3) years’ experience leading in an EMS-related program (i.e., emergency preparedness) at the local, state, federal governmental level
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills and public speaking skills with internal and external stakeholders (i.e., within SJRMC, Farmington, and San Juan County)
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Goal-oriented and alignment with SJRMC’s Strategic Plan and organizational goals
  • Demonstrated leadership that is collaborative and accountability-focused
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills with internal and external stakeholders (i.e., within SJRMC and the community)
  • Experience in quality improvement, process improvement, and performance management
  • Must have the ability to research, evaluate, analyze, and present data in reports and presentations
  • Must maintain collaborative relationships with the Chiefs of first responder agencies in Farmington and San Juan County
  • Current paramedic license with the ability to obtain a New Mexico license prior to hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support or equivalent
  • FEMA ICS 100 & 700

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in leading to achieve “turn around” results, in terms of culture and quality patient care outcomes
  • Previous experience with ambulance billing
  • Intergovernmental and interagency cooperation skills
  • Experience with budget (operating and capital) creation and administration
  • EMS instructor experience

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects (i.e., operations, community relations and liaison) to state and federal governmental agencies focusing on emergency preparedness, emergency response, disaster recovery of EMS.
  • Reducing barriers to care, improving quality, and increasing resource availability for the people that San Juan Regional EMS serves.
  • Effectively motivates and encourages people to perform at their best and in alignment with industry standards.
  • Financial and Strategic Management: Understands health care economics and health care public policy, Demonstrates strong financial aptitude, Exhibit strong business planning and project management abilities, Develops operating and capital budget in coordination with SJRMC Finance Department and San Juan County Finance Department (respectively).
  • Human Resource Management and Leadership: Knowledgeable about effective recruitment, retention, and staff engagement strategies and tactics and implements them, Ensure that staff are accountable to provide care that meets industry and SJRMC standards, Motivate and develop employees to perform at their best, in alignment with industry standards.
  • Quality and Performance Improvement: Consistently displays a commitment to continuing to improve patient outcomes, Actively leads departmental and organizational quality initiatives, Assures the safety of patients and staff is maintained, Remains knowledgeable of and maintains requirements set forth by the NM EMS Bureau, The Public Regulatory Commission (PPC) and SJRMC, Stays current with changing EMS industry standards, equipment, innovations, and initiatives, Ensures that EMS protocols and procedures are consistent with national standards and are reviewed and updated on a regular basis and employees maintain awareness of and are competency validated as protocols and procedures are updated.
  • Relationship Management and Influencing Behaviors: Champions and represents SJRMC EMS at community and governmental interactions, Effectively leads EMS to maintain alignment with SJRMC Core Values, Service Standards, and our Mission and Vision, Exhibits effective communication, public speaking, collaboration, and negotiation skills: Effectively lead a high performing, collaborative multidisciplinary team, Understands one’s values, beliefs, and attitudes and how they affect interactions with others.
