About The Position

Midwood EMS is seeking experienced Emergency Medical Dispatchers to work from its Brooklyn headquarters in Coney Island. EMT Technicians are welcome to apply. The dispatcher position is critical to efficiently assigning resources to customers and clients. Communications among crews, callers, hospitals, management, and others flow through the dispatcher. The role requires a strong team player with a professional attitude, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work well under pressure to ensure calls are handled safely and rapidly. Candidates receive training Monday through Friday. The schedule consists of later afternoon shifts, overnights, and weekends. The candidate must be available to work afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed because EMS operations run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Requirements

Knowledge of medical terminology.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly in English.
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with personnel from multiple departments and divisions.
Availability to work afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

Previous Emergency Medical Services (EMS) experience.
Previous experience using Computer Assisted Dispatch (CAD) systems or similar systems.
EMT Technicians are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities

Coordinate with hospitals, healthcare providers, facilities, patients, patients’ family members, and caretakers to arrange transports.
Verify patients’ insurance coverage.
Answer and make phone calls.
Collect insurance information for the company billing department.
Process credit card payments.
Dispatch calls using radio codes and practices.
