About The Position

This dual-role position supports the operational readiness of EMS personnel through training coordination, educational support, and effective management of medical supplies and fleet readiness. The role involves both training and logistics responsibilities, including coordinating education programs, managing medical supplies, and ensuring fleet readiness. The position also requires the ability to act as a paramedic when needed.

Requirements

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess or obtain an Associate’s degree in EMS or related field within two years of employment.
  • 5 years of experience as a paramedic level provider.
  • NC EMS Level I Paramedic instructor must be obtained within three years of employment.
  • Experience working as or in the development/supervision of an FTO program.
  • Certification by the State of North Carolina as a Paramedic.
  • Physically able to function as a paramedic as part of a two-person ambulance crew or single person quick response vehicle.
  • Valid NC Driver’s License.
  • Must possess or obtain within two years of employment ACLS, PALS and CPR instructor certifications.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite to include Microsoft Visio.
  • Proficiency in the use of Adobe Acrobat, video editing software, inventory/documentation systems, and the management of audio / visual equipment to facilitate training presentations.
  • Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supply boxes consistent with EMS operations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply medical research with assistance from the EMS Training Officer, EMS Medical Director, and EMS Director.
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced life support emergency medical procedures and techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of the equipment and supplies employed in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents or trauma.
  • Ability to assist in the delivery of a training program that is well defined so that all employees understand what is expected of them.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of skills and medications permissible to be performed or administered by each level of credentialed OEMS provider.
  • Ability to conduct training courses in person, online and while crews are on duty.
  • Considerable knowledge of the geographical layout of the county and city including the location of roads and streets within the county.
  • Considerable knowledge of radio communications equipment.
  • Skill in applying BLS and ALS techniques and treatment.
  • Ability to instruct emergency medical personnel in the application of medical and technical procedures to be used in emergency situations.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with the public and co-workers.
  • Must have strong public speaking skills and be willing to present to small or large audiences on multiple occasions, some with little to no preparation/notification.
  • Willing to successfully complete EMS Leadership training when offered.
  • Willing to attend professional development classes and training when offered.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and remain calm in a crisis.
  • Ability to be a team leader.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to communicate successfully with various people and personalities.
  • Willingness to work with employees to offer suggestions and alternate solutions to problems encountered in clinical care and operational concerns in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and addressing agency training needs
  • Support development, coordination, and delivery of EMS education programs
  • Assist with initial orientation and ongoing competency training for EMS personnel
  • Conduct or assist with classroom instruction, hands-on skills labs, and scenario-based training
  • Provide “Just-In-Time” training to crews on operational updates, protocols, equipment, and high-risk/low-frequency skills
  • Assist with continuing education (CE) tracking and training documentation
  • Assist with coordinating training schedules, classroom setup, and instructional materials
  • Assist with onboarding and field training support for new employees
  • Support quality improvement initiatives through remedial or targeted education with the direction of the Training Officer and Quality Manager
  • Maintain organization of training equipment, supplies, and educational resources
  • Assist with simulation training and operational readiness exercises
  • Participate in protocol rollouts and implementation training
  • Assist in the coordination of the Field Training Officer program, ensuring proper training and oversight for all FTO’s.
  • Organizing and maintaining ALS and BLS medical supplies
  • Managing inventory levels and assisting with supply ordering
  • Stocking and distributing supplies to EMS units, out-bases, & supply vending points
  • Delivering supplies, medications, and equipment to stations and field units as needed
  • Assisting with fleet and equipment organization
  • Developing, updating, and managing ambulance/truck check sheets
  • Assisting with standardization of truck stocking and compartment organization
  • Monitoring expiration dates and ensuring compliance with inventory standards
  • Maintaining accurate inventory records and supply accountability
  • Assisting with equipment deployment and replacement tracking
  • Supporting operational readiness for frontline units and reserve apparatus
  • Coordinating with operations staff to address supply shortages and equipment needs
  • Act as a paramedic both on a quick response type vehicle as well as on the ambulance when needed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
