Employment Support Staff for Deaf Adults
About The Position
Strategies to Empower People (STEP) is hiring a full-time Employment Support Staff to provide on-site work instruction and support for a deaf adult with an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability. This position supports a person who is deaf or hard-of-hearing and requires STRONG AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) skills. Employment Support Staff provide on-site support for our clients at their job site. We are looking for empathetic, patient, and creative individuals who can help our clients find new ways to grow their independence and develop their job skills! This includes support with activities like modeling appropriate behavior at the workplace, providing hands-on support, supporting with self-advocacy, teaching about appropriate workplace communication & behavior, and personal growth and health management.
Requirements
- Must be 18+ with a high school diploma, GED, or Certificate of Completion.
- Must have at least one (1) year of professional, relatable experience.
- Must be a driver with CA Driver License, current auto insurance, and a clear Motor Vehicle Record.
- Must have STRONG AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site work instruction and support for a deaf adult with an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability.
- Model appropriate behavior at the workplace.
- Provide hands-on support.
- Support with self-advocacy.
- Teach about appropriate workplace communication & behavior.
- Assist with personal growth and health management.
- Transport the client to various job sites.
