About The Position

The Employment Specialist plays a vital role in supporting student and graduate success by fostering strong connections with employers, alumni, and community partners. This role is responsible for developing employment opportunities, facilitating career development programs, and preparing graduates for job readiness. Through one-on-one coaching, group workshops, and employer engagement initiatives, the Employment Specialist ensures AOLCC graduates achieve strong employment outcomes, with a target of 80% graduate employment rate.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Psychology, Business, Career Development, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in recruitment, business development, or employment services (experience in the Private Career College sector is an asset).
  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, employment search strategies, and labour market trends.
  • Skilled in resume development, interview coaching, job readiness training, and one-on-one career counseling.
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and public speaking abilities.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite, Internet research, and email communication.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with employers and community organizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the Private Career College sector is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Research internal and external employment trends, labour market demands, and alumni relations to inform Career Services strategies.
  • Develop employment opportunities for graduates through cold calling, direct outreach, networking, and employer relationship building.
  • Recruit employers to participate in career initiatives including job fairs, internships, job shadowing, mentoring, guest speaker sessions, and volunteer programs.
  • Collaborate with employers, social agencies, faculty, and students to identify career education needs and deliver responsive programming.
  • Design, develop, and deliver workshops, seminars, and training sessions on job readiness, resume writing, cover letters, interview skills, and lifelong career management strategies.
  • Provide individual career coaching to students and graduates, helping them identify strengths, overcome employment barriers, and develop effective job search strategies.
  • Maintain and enhance the student career resource center with up-to-date career tools and technology.
  • Research and share insights on industry trends, software utilization, and employer skill needs.
  • Coordinate career conferences, job fairs, and employer networking events.
  • Develop and maintain an alumni placement tracking system.
  • Actively contribute to the college-wide development of career-related curriculum and resources.
  • Promote AOLCC programs to potential practicum host organizations.
  • Maintain and expand a network of practicum providers and employer partners.
  • Prepare students for field placements by guiding them on professional conduct and workplace expectations.
  • Explore and develop alternatives to help students gain Canadian work experience.
