About The Position

Comprehensive and specialized assessments of skill levels and service needs. Development of an individual employment plan to identify the employment goals, appropriate achievement objectives, and appropriate combination for services for the participant to achieve the employment goals. Group and Individual career counseling and career planning. Provide services available from the local office, including the availability of referrals to agricultural and non-agricultural employment, training, supportive services, testing, counseling and other job development services Provide specific employment opportunities which are currently available Provide Information on the complaint system and Basic summary of farmworker rights regarding the terms and conditions of employment. Coordinates services with state and local agencies and private employers for job development and referrals.  Maintains accurate case records including tracking customers’ employability plans.  Maintains appropriate documentation for support services and conducts follow-up on customers on a regularly scheduled basis. Refers customers to community resources for appropriate employment-related services and performs placement services, as required.   Due to the increased Hispanic influence within the agricultural community of this administrative area, it is required that the incumbent have adequate linguistic ability in both English and Spanish.   Under the direct supervision of the Workforce Services Process Manager and Regional Workforce Development Board 19 and in compliance with Federal regulations, will perform extensive personal outreach contacts with Migrant and Seasonal Farm-workers (MSFW) in order to determine their employment needs and to advise them of the full range of services available at the local One Stop Center.   Make available and distribute to MSFW workers concise written information in Spanish and English informing workers of their rights under State and Federal Statutes and Regulations.  Also, inform these workers of Worker Complaint Systems.   Will assist other professional staff to identify and extend services to MSFWs in need of job referral, intensive guidance or other specialized services necessary to attain a status of employability.  Refer MSFWs to supportive services not available through the One Stop Center when appropriate.   Will refer any applicant with extensive barriers to employment to a counselor.   Will cooperate and communicate with MSFW community action organizations, familiarizing them with One Stop Center available services and urging referral of MSFW workers to local offices.  Will solicit assistance in outreach from these organizations.  Will perform follow-up and follow-through activities as needed. You will be conducting outreach and assessment services for Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers (MSFW) in the areas where they live, work and congregate. You will be providing information to MSFWs at their working, living or gathering areas, including day haul sites, by means of written and oral presentations either spontaneous or recorded, in a language that is readily understood by them. These expectations are for all our employees, and you will be expected to model these as a leader.  We believe in supporting and encouraging you as you take on important and often complex projects while offering you the opportunity to gain valuable experience.   This position is located in the Wauchula, Florida office within Hardee County. Most of the area is rural and part of the Florida scrub ecosystem, with smaller areas of hammocks and cypress swamps and lakes. The only road that goes through the County is the Old Florida Cracker Trail. The area has a rich history of cattle drives and stories of early settlers becoming cracker cowboys. Wauchula used to be known as the Cucumber Capital of the World, but watermelons and citrus have become even larger crops for the area. The County has parks and a wildlife refuge as well as a museum.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in individual and group settings, both verbally and in writing in both English and Spanish.
  • Working knowledge/experience using Microsoft applications which include Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) required (written and verbal)
  • Must have MSFW background
  • Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.
  • Travel may be required to travel.
