About The Position

Prospect, one of Alberta’s leading non-profits, is looking for a skilled Employment Retention Specialist to join their team. The role involves helping people transition into new jobs while supporting them and their employers for success and retention of the job. Prospect's mission is to break barriers and employ change for individuals facing employment challenges. This position specifically provides on-site job support for clients, working with both employers and clients to achieve stable, retained employment. The specialist must have experience working with people with a broad range of disabilities, including mental illness and developmental disabilities.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Social or Behavioral Sciences, Human Services, Psychology, Life Coaching, Leadership, and/or a related discipline
  • 2+ years related experience; with demonstrated reliability shown in past positions
  • Moderate skill level in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Persuasion, negotiation, tenacity, and a results-oriented attitude
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, with demonstrated ability to present and facilitate
  • Excellent listening and critical thinking skills with the ability to identify problems and provide strategic, workable solutions
  • Ability to work individually and in a broader team based environment
  • A driven, ambitious, charismatic person who thrives under pressure
  • Knowledge of labour market and workforce planning solutions
  • Able to maintain high ethical standards and handle sensitive information in a confidential, diplomatic manner
  • A reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license is required for regular travel to various job sites
  • The successful candidate must pass a background criminal check

Responsibilities

  • Act as an Employment Retention Specialist for clients
  • Promote your role to employers in information sessions and client interviews
  • Research a client’s file to discover their service plan, work history, diagnosis, support network and learning style
  • Analyze work environments and cultures to anticipate barriers for clients
  • Observe clients’ work on the job at various sites
  • Collaborate with employers to create strategies for success
  • Update the rest of the Prospect team, including Career Advisors, Employment Specialists, and other members of the clients' support network
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Alberta Labour Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Standards, Canadian Employment Equity Act, CET standards and funder policies and protocols
