About The Position

The Employment Outreach & Program Assistant connects individuals with employment and community resources while promoting YMCA programs. Through outreach to agencies, presentations, and participation in cultural events, this role increases awareness of available services. Using proven frameworks, it guides youth through transitions while enhancing program effectiveness. This role works closely with the community and program staff to expand access to valuable support and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Enrolment in post-secondary education in a related field preferred in Employment Counselling, Business, or Human Resources Management or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation relating to employment and local labour market opportunities.
  • Some knowledge of relevant legislation relating to employment.
  • Previous customer service experience.
  • Ability to work in an efficient manner independently and as part of a team.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging.

Responsibilities

  • Assist program staff in providing program participants with general information and resources, including contacts, referral services, and support (e.g., employment, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, housing, education, health).
  • Engage youth in transition in accordance with the Stages of Change model, a Positive Youth Development Framework, and relevant legislation, such as the Child and Family Services Act and the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
  • Help program staff maintain accurate records and statistics related to activities undertaken.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of issues and trends related to program participants to provide them with appropriate resources and support.
  • Support outreach efforts to connect with community partners, schools, and local organizations to promote YMCA employment programs and services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
