About The Position

The Employment Counsellor works with a diverse range of individuals (including inclusion group’s members) to assist them in securing and maintaining employment or community attachment. This is a floater position supporting multiple WorkBC Centres in the Greater Vancouver Area, in particular Vancouver, TriCities, Langley, Aldergrove, and Richmond.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services and/or Education; or a combination of training and professional experience in supporting individuals with disabilities and complex barriers
  • Experience in career development
  • Experience in employment counselling and work placement
  • Experience conducting need assessments and developing action plans
  • Experience in managing client data and documenting the counselling process
  • Knowledge of career counselling, cross-cultural counselling and job development
  • Knowledge of the local labour market
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent outreach skills
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new working environment and site manager
  • Ability to establish and maintain counselling relationship with clients
  • Ability to communicate effectively with service providers and stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent technical skills in MS Office and web-based research tools
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to excellence in service delivery
  • Criminal Record Check required

Responsibilities

  • Performs active client recruitment
  • Conducts formal needs assessments through structured interview processes to identify and prioritize issues that are preventing clients from achieving employment
  • Develops personalized plans that addresses clients’ needs and making use of services available within WorkBC
  • Makes referrals to community resources as needed
  • Monitors client progress by reviewing activities and learning outcomes on a communication medium
  • Reviews, revises and updates action plans to enhance self-sufficiency and sustainable labour market attachment
  • Ensures clients achieve employment (or community attachment) in a timely manner
  • Determines client needs and eligibility and administering financial supports where appropriate
  • Completes documentation and preparing financial reports as required
  • Ensures client activities fall within the scope of the budget parameters
  • Ensures billing milestones and employment sustainment targets for the program are met on an individual basis each month
  • Captures client data to evidence qualitative and quantitative outcomes
  • Writes client progress notes, follow-up reports and success stories
  • Works at different WorkBC Centres during term of employment
  • Other related duties as assigned by the manager
