About The Position

The Employment Counsel will provide knowledgeable and practical legal advice to human resources professionals and other company leaders regarding day-to-day employment law issues. This includes areas such as discipline, performance management, non-discrimination, non-harassment, wage and hour practices, background checks and drug testing, and employment law compliance issues. The role also involves guiding HR professionals on ADA interactive process discussions, FMLA and other leave-related compliance issues. Additionally, the Employment Counsel will manage a docket of employment law litigation matters in coordination with outside employment counsel, respond to attorney demand letters and agency administrative charges, and develop company policies and associated materials in response to applicable legal developments. The position also includes developing and delivering training to HR professionals on employment law topics, drafting and negotiating settlement and separation agreements, and drafting OWBPA and WARN notices/disclosures. Legal research and preparation of written materials are also key components, along with other projects or duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate and 4 to 6 years of related experience at a major law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • Admission to a U.S. state bar with an active license
  • Compliance with requirements for in-house practice in the State of Illinois

Responsibilities

  • Providing guidance to human resources professionals on ADA interactive process discussions, FMLA and other leave-related compliance issues
  • Managing a docket of employment law litigation matters in coordination with outside employment counsel
  • Responding to attorney demand letters and agency administrative charges involving employment-related claims
  • Developing company policies and associated materials in response to applicable legal developments
  • Developing and delivering training to HR professionals on employment law topics
  • Drafting and negotiating settlement and separation agreements
  • Drafting OWBPA and WARN notices / disclosures
  • Legal research and preparation of written materials as necessary in furtherance of counseling, compliance, litigation and related matters
  • Other projects or duties as assigned
