About The Position

The Employment Counsel provides practical and strategic legal guidance on a broad range of employment matters, including discipline, performance, accommodations, leaves of absence, reductions in force and other terminations, benefits, compensation, and compliance with applicable laws. The role manages agency responses and employment litigation, advises on employment policies and agreements, and works closely with HR and business leaders to ensure employment practices align with Deluxe’s legal obligations and strategic objectives. The position also provides advice on internal investigations and participates with the Legal Department and the business in anticipating, identifying, assessing, and managing potential legal risks.

Responsibilities

Provide timely, day-to-day advice to HR and business leaders on employment law matters, including discipline, performance management, accommodations, reductions in force and other terminations, leaves of absence, benefits, compensation, and legal compliance.
Respond to federal and state agency charges, including EEOC and state-equivalent charges; manage employment-related litigation and collaborate with outside counsel as appropriate, focusing on creative strategies, cost efficiency, and timely, effective resolution.
Collaborate with HR and business leaders to shape and support the development and deployment of Deluxe’s business strategy in alignment with employment laws and best practices.
Provide strategic counseling on employment policies, agreements, and best practices, including drafting and reviewing employment agreements, policies, and internal or external communications.
Participate with the Legal Department and the business in anticipating, identifying, assessing, and managing potential legal risks.
Provide employment law advice regarding internal investigations and direct those investigations.
