About The Position

The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario is seeking an Employment Consultant - Facilitator to join their team. This Full-time position is located at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s Elm location in Sudbury. The role involves preparing clients for employment through workshops and referrals to community resources. Responsibilities include developing curriculums, facilitating workshops, evaluating client progress, and recognizing client accomplishments.

Requirements

  • College diploma or University degree in Career Development or related field (Child & Youth Worker, Employment Counselling, Social Work)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working directly with individuals facing multiple barriers to employment
  • Minimum of two (2) years facilitating motivational career development workshops
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Solid knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards and code
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of Adult Education Certificate/Training and Development Certificate or in progress considered an asset
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Harm Reduction, Stages of Change and Motivational Interviewing considered an asset
  • Crisis management and life skills

Responsibilities

  • Establish and communicate objectives for all program workshops
  • Prepare training systems, course materials and supplies for training sessions
  • Facilitate training using various adult learning methods including life skills and employability skills
  • Deliver curriculum according to content and standards of the program
  • Guide trainees in applying their newly acquired skills and knowledge
  • Maintain case note documentation, workshop attendance and confidential data
  • Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping
  • Compile and report evaluation feedback
  • Embody the four foundational pillars of Motivational Interviewing (Partnership, Acceptance, Compassion, and Empowerment) throughout workshops
  • Respond to participant resistance with empathy, respect, and a collaborative approach
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the OARS communication skills: Open-ended Questions, Affirmations, Reflective Listening, and Summaries
  • Effectively teach and model the foundational Motivational Interviewing micro-skills to support participant learning and skill development
