About The Position

Amex GBT is seeking an Employment and Litigation Paralegal to provide strategic support to their Employment Law and HR teams. This role will focus on labor and employment matters and litigation, particularly in reporting legal matters. The position requires close collaboration with Legal, Human Resources, Compliance and Ethics, and other departments, as well as external counsel globally. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, relevant knowledge, the ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously with minimal supervision, and experience with basic US labor and employment laws.

Requirements

  • Strong litigation background, particularly in employment law and preferably outside the US.
  • Familiarity with labor and employment law in the US; knowledge of labor and employment law in other jurisdictions is highly preferred.
  • Previous employment and/or paralegal experience at a law firm or other transferable paralegal training or experience.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects, meet established deadlines, and handle change as business needs require.
  • Proficient digital literacy including e-mail, recordkeeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, and external specialty platforms (litigation management, etc.).
  • Strong computer research and investigation skills.
  • Excellent legal research and legal writing skills.
  • Paralegal certificate, with at least 3-5 years of related employment law experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Candidates based in the Eastern timezone are highly preferred due to business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external counsel for regular litigation case updates and manage this information in the Company’s legal case management system.
  • Collaborate with the VP Legal, Finance, and others to prepare required litigation reports and analysis for internal and external partners.
  • Respond to subpoenas and other similar requests for employee records/data directed to the Company.
  • Assist with labor and employment litigation, including maintaining matter calendars, organizing, gathering, and coordinating document production, ensuring compliance with document preservation requirements (hold notices), and responding to electronic discovery obligations for litigation and government investigations/inquiries.
  • Support internal and external counsel in scheduling and coordinating interviews of current and former Company personnel.
  • Assist attorneys in implementing terms of settlement agreements, including processing payments to former employees and other third parties.
  • Manage the Amex GBT Hotline and centralized policy resources, providing reports as needed.
  • Work with HR Operations and Facilities teams to ensure compliance with workplace postings and notices requirements.
  • Collaborate with HR Operations and Talent Acquisition on applicable Affirmative Action Plans (AAPs) in the US.
  • Assist with drafting basic labor and employment documents for review by the Employment Law team and respond to HR inquiries regarding policies and other matters.
  • Stay informed about current US and international labor and employment laws and provide periodic legal updates to the Human Resources team under the direction of the Legal Team.
  • Maintain Employment Law and other training schedules and assist in the development of legal presentations.
  • Serve as a representative of the Employment Law team on Company projects and initiatives, and occasionally provide backup support to colleagues in the Legal and Human Resources teams.
