About The Position

Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley is seeking an Employee Training Specialist to provide oversight and direct services for the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) participants and partnering agencies. This role adheres to National Easter Seals and Department of Labor guidelines while complying with Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley policies and procedures. The specialist will organize, plan, and implement methods for identifying, contacting, and maintaining rapport with area employers to secure job openings. The goal is to assist clients in obtaining appropriate full-time, part-time competitive supported employment and to market all agency services to prospective employers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Business Education, Social Science or related field.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in field of vocational rehabilitation or job development.
  • Involvement in implementation and development of training programs for adults with disabling and disadvantaging conditions.
  • Knowledge of business and industry hiring practices.
  • A valid driver's license and your own car are required.
  • Must maintain the ability to pass a criminal background check and random drug screens.
  • Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to market Easter Seals and explain the mission to the general public.
  • Ability to use general office equipment including computer keyboard by touch.
  • Must possess good organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to take initiative, make decisions and work well with little supervision.
  • Must be able to keep information confidential.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate clearly in English.
  • Must be able to maintain an effective working relationship with, and among employees and participants, while motivating them to their best performance.
  • Must be able to make schedules and work with generally little supervision.
  • Ability to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, and handle tools; occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Regularly lift/move up to 10 lbs, frequently up to 25 lbs, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for adherence of all requirements related to specific funding sources for SCSEP, including maintaining necessary records, submitting weekly reports, and providing input to referral sources regarding individual placement progress.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports to Quality Assurance.
  • Enter all participant data into SPARQ database and update as needed.
  • Recruit program participants and Host Agency training sites, matching participants based on needs, interests, and aptitudes.
  • Network with and maintain positive relationships with providers in all served counties to identify training and employment opportunities and to co-refer participants.
  • Market the organization and SCSEP in the community through public speaking, cold calls, and employer visits to find placement and training opportunities.
  • Conduct eligibility interviews for SCSEP program applicants using Department of Labor guidelines.
  • Inform participants of all Easter Seals Services based on identified needs and assist them in accessing these services.
  • Develop an Individual Employment Plan for each participant based on a Needs Assessment and update it at least quarterly.
  • Identify barriers to employment, possess knowledge of community providers, and make appropriate referrals.
  • Conduct or oversee a formal orientation for new participants.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate participant files, departmental records, database information, and reports required by Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley, National Easter Seals, and the Department of Labor.
  • Manage and ensure confidentiality of participant files and records, complying with organizational guidelines, policies, and Department of Labor regulations.
  • Communicate regularly with Host Agencies to monitor participant performance and assess permanent employment potential.
  • Meet or exceed individual and departmental program goals as established with supervisor or by the DOL.
  • Teach job readiness, basic literacy, and life skills in a classroom or one-on-one format.
  • Assist program with Retention Performance measures by conducting and documenting regular follow-up activities with participants and employers.
  • Stay informed of community, agency, and program information through inter-office communications, staff meetings, professional development activities, and community events.
  • Act as a positive role model for employees and participants.
  • Observe safety procedures and personnel policies, and ensure compliance by employees and participants.
  • Provide local labor market information to job applicants.
  • Schedule and attend monthly staffings.
  • Initiate contact with prospective employers to determine personnel needs and arrange interviews for applicants.
  • Provide career counseling, exploration, and development to job applicants.
  • Assist applicants in contacting and obtaining interviews from appropriate prospective employers.
  • Provide own transportation to visit employers and participants on site, as needed.
  • Comply with all Agency policies, procedures, and safety standards throughout work areas and maintain compliance with CARF, Department of Labor, and other regulatory standards.
