About The Position

BRMi is seeking an Employee Relations Specialist to provide guidance to management and employees on performance concerns, conflict resolution, organizational changes, HR policies and procedures, employment/labor laws, EEO, and adverse employment actions to promote a fair and equitable work environment. This role involves assessing and addressing employee engagement, manager education, employee and manager counseling, performance improvement efforts, investigations, policy interpretation, and resolution of employee grievances/charges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of leave and disability laws and related regulations, including FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, and substance abuse considerations.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment with integrity.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present findings and recommendations clearly and concisely.
  • Strong negotiation, influence, and conflict resolution skills with a focus on positive outcomes.
  • Advanced organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships through trust, diplomacy, tact, and collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency navigating multiple systems, PC applications, and adapting to new technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management by evaluating employee inquiries and workplace issues, recommending appropriate courses of action, and providing guidance on employee relations matters.
  • Conduct timely and thorough workplace investigations, document findings, and recommend appropriate corrective or disciplinary action while minimizing legal and organizational risk.
  • Develop clear, accurate, and legally defensible case documentation, including chronological histories and supporting records.
  • Resolve complex employee relations matters involving discipline, performance, attendance, employee concerns, and compliance with employment laws and internal policies.
  • Interpret and apply HR theories, principles, policies, and employment regulations to provide sound recommendations and consistent employee relations support.
  • Analyze employee data, including exit surveys and turnover trends, to develop metrics, identify issues, and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Monitor changes in employment legislation and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance and advise on emerging risks.
  • Research internal policies, procedures, and precedent to ensure consistency and fairness in adverse employment actions.
  • Review performance appraisals as needed to assess fairness, consistency, accuracy, and legal compliance.
  • Partner with internal counsel and external legal offices on litigation matters, providing case analysis, documentation, and support.
  • Advise management and employees on federal, state, and international employment laws, including EEO, AAP, FMLA, ADEA, ADA, and related regulations.
  • Represent the organization in unemployment hearings and appeals when required.
  • Draft and support internal and external employee relations communications.
  • Lead or support employee relations projects, initiatives, reporting, and cross-functional efforts.
  • Research, compile, review, and analyze reports to support business and employee relations objectives.
  • Support onboarding and training of new Employee Relations team members.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
