The Employee Relations (ER) Specialist is responsible for people investigations, supporting leaders in the field and office with performance issues through coaching and disciplinary actions, maintaining employee listening strategies, ensuring and maintaining compliance with employment law, and supporting the business with consistent application and perspective on policies. Specialist regularly employs positive employee relations strategies to enhance company climate and culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Human Resources Management, Business Management or related degree, or Combination of experience and education required
  • Minimum of 3+ years' experience in Human Resources
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Experience working with employee relations issues, talent management, recruiting and/or payroll.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills.
  • Open, transparent, and regular communicator.

  • Use appropriate tools and approaches to maintain a harmonious work environment.
  • Advanced employee engagement skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of federal/state laws and regulations regarding human resource practices (i.e., FLSA, ADA, EEO, etc.)
  • Significant knowledge of HR policies, processes (e.g., workforce planning and talent management), and talent management practices.
  • Fair, equitable, and consistent in treatment of others and application of laws, policies and practices.
  • Solid problem-solving skills.
  • Clear, comprehensive understanding of the link between talent and other HR initiatives and business strategy.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to influence and build strong business partnerships.
  • Ability to work at a high pace, with competing, and changing priorities.
  • Ability to develop and deliver relevant, effective training programs to targeted audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Power BI.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and responds to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, harassment, retaliation and/or discrimination allegations, policy violations, and performance concerns.
  • Investigates and responds to Ethics Hotline issues assigned to human resources.
  • Works directly with management to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.
  • Provides advice on how to effectively deal with employees, especially in difficult situations.
  • Interprets policy and procedures consistently and objectively, consults with legal counsel as appropriate on personnel matters.
  • Supports leaders in coaching employees when issues are observed and helps leaders guide employees to improve employee performance through regular and systematic feedback, support and development.
  • Supports and guides leaders in the use of fair and consistent corrective actions to discipline employees whose behavior and performance does not meet communicated standards.
  • Addresses conflicts and strives to resolve them in a positive manner that benefits all parties and facilitates healthy work relationships.
  • Listens to and addresses employee concerns to encourage a supportive atmosphere in the workplace.
  • Resolves employee issues and handles complaints to protect the interests of all parties involved.
  • Analyzes listening surveys (i.e., onboarding, voluntary exit, etc.) to obtain relevant insights and fuel continuous improvement, as well as takes appropriate action when necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensures organization's compliance.
  • Communicates changes in the organization's personnel policies and procedures and ensures that proper compliance is followed.
  • Counsel’s management regarding unemployment claims hearings.
  • May attend unemployment hearings with manager, when appropriate.
  • Facilitates the reasonable accommodation process.
  • Provides reporting and analysis to detect trends and work with HR management team on recommendations.
  • Make continuous improvements and recommendations for new and creative ideas.
