About The Position

As an Employee Relations Partner at Anthropic, you will play a critical role in fostering a workplace culture that enables our teams to do their best work while ensuring fairness, compliance, and alignment with our mission to build safe, transformative AI systems. You will be responsible for working with current ER staff to continue building and refining Anthropic's ER function, serving as a subject matter expert on complex investigations, performance management issues, and other employee relations matters globally. You will be the SME for ER projects as needed, working with internal stakeholders and ER team members to build and operationalize scalable and compliant processes and documentation. This role requires balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution as you will be the primary ER Partner for specific business groups, and serve as a partner for iRisk, Security and Compliance investigations. You'll help this newly formed team design scalable ER processes and policies that span multiple regions. You'll partner closely with People Partners, Employment Legal, and cross-functional teams to navigate sensitive employee matters with care, integrity, and sound judgment. As we continue to scale rapidly, you'll help build the foundations of an ER function that can grow with the organization.

Requirements

  • Have conducted 50+ workplace investigations, including complex, multi-party investigations involving allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations
  • Are skilled at managing highly sensitive situations with discretion, empathy, and sound judgment
  • Have exceptional analytical and communication skills, with the ability to write clear, thorough, legally defensible investigation reports and present findings to senior leadership
  • Can balance being a trusted advisor with maintaining objectivity and independence
  • Excel at de-escalating charged situations and building trust with employees at all levels
  • Have experience advising on performance management, separations, and other employee relations matters in fast-paced, high-growth environments
  • Are comfortable with ambiguity and can create structure where none exists
  • Think strategically about program design while also being willing to roll up your sleeves for hands-on work
  • Experience supporting global clients
  • Care deeply about fairness, equity, and creating psychologically safe workplaces

Nice To Haves

  • Have 8 + years of progressive experience in employee relations, workplace investigations, or employment law
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school (preferred but not required)
  • AWI-CH, SPHR, or similar certifications
  • Experience managing international employee relations issues
  • Background working at technology companies or startups
  • Experience helping to build ER functions from the ground up or through periods of significant growth
  • Familiarity with multi-state or international employment law and compliance considerations
  • Experience with ER case management systems and tools
  • Knowledge of or interest in AI safety and the unique people challenges in frontier AI development

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex, high-stakes investigations personally while providing guidance and coaching to People Partners on lower-level investigations.
  • Partner with Internal Risk, Compliance and other teams to ensure coordinated, thorough responses and investigations into related concerns.
  • Serve as senior advisor to People Partners on complex performance management matters, particularly those intersecting with investigations or involving senior employees.
  • Provide strategic guidance on performance improvement plans, disciplinary actions, and separations.
  • Collaborate with ER leadership, Integrity/Compliance, Enablement, and other teams on employee relations policies.
  • Own education strategy for investigations and ER best practices, delivering training to People Partners, managers, and employees as needed.
  • Build scalable, repeatable processes for investigations, case management, and employee relations issues.
  • Develop frameworks for consistent decision-making while maintaining flexibility for nuanced situations.
  • Track ER metrics and trends to identify patterns, inform policy decisions, and proactively address systemic issues, particularly as they relate to the client groups you support.
  • Use data to improve programs and measure impact.
  • Work closely with Employment Legal on risk assessment, compliance matters, and sensitive cases.
  • Partner with Security, Trust & Safety, and other teams as needed on matters with broader organizational implications.
