About The Position

The Employee Health Services (EHS) Nurse Clinician is a Registered Nurse who provides direct and indirect nursing care for Salinas Valley Health staff, with particular emphasis in the area of occupational/employee health. The Nurse Clinician utilizes established protocols and current standards of care to meet the wide variety of health care needs of the Salinas Valley Health staff population. Collaboratively works with Infection Prevention toward control of communicable diseases in the Salinas Valley Health staff population. Actively promotes Employee Health and Safety. Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-pace environment.

Requirements

  • Associates of Science in nursing (ASN) required
  • Current California RN license.
  • Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards.
  • Two (2) years Registered Nurse experience required
  • Strong understanding of Employee or Occupational Health regulations, including Ergonomics, workers’ compensation, safety, exposure management/follow up, HIPAA and CAL OSHA guidelines.

  • BSN preferred.
  • If promoted from Employee Health Nurse I, must adhere to education requirements as outlined in EHS RN I job description.
  • Strong understanding of Employee/Occupational Health regulations, including CAL OSHA guidelines preferred.
  • Certified Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) preferred.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • one (1) year experience working in Employee/Occupational Health or similar setting preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records, Excel, and other software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe, competent and efficient nursing care for minor and acute injuries and illnesses via department protocols and medical directives.
  • Performs complete pre-employment and annual health screening.
  • Assists in monitoring employee work-related illness and injury trends and helps assess, develop and implement strategies to prevent work-acquired injury or illness and expedite return to work.
  • Performs bloodborne pathogen exposure assessment, treatment and follow up.
  • Participates in preventative screening programs (e.g. TB screenings, influenza, hepatitis B, MMR, varicella and other appropriate immunizations) and surveillance programs designed to identify and monitor risks to the employee’s health.
  • Safely administers and appropriately documents on immunizations and TB skin tests given to Salinas Valley Health employees per protocol.
  • Perform communicable disease exposure follow-up, documentation and referral as appropriate.
  • Identifies and refers employees with personal health needs to the appropriate medical practitioner or personal physician when appropriate.
  • Counseling employees on physical and mental health issues and guiding them toward community resources and/or employee assistance programs.
  • Demonstrates cost control in all practice activities.
  • Documents employee visits thoroughly and accurately in Employee Health’s EMR.
  • Maintains and ensures confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
  • Act as an advocate for employees in preventative health and safety measures.
  • Actively participate in achieving departmental goals.
  • Performs ergonomic assessments, providing documented recommendations to body mechanics and workstation setup.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
