Requirements

  • Current unrestricted certificate of competence (registration in good standing) as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario; and three years’ experience in the occupational health field with a focus on abilities management; or
  • Current unrestricted certificate of competence (registration in good standing) as a Registered Nurse or a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario, with one year in the occupational health field and possess an Occupational Health Nurse or Certified Disability Management Professional or Certified Return to Work Coordinator designation
  • Understanding and working knowledge of insured disability plans, Ontario Human Rights Code as well as Workplace Safety and Insurance Board benefits and current WSIB/OH&SA legislation is required

Responsibilities

  • Monitor treatment and rehabilitative progress and collaborate with insurers and healthcare providers to develop realistic and sustainable disability management plans.
  • Direct and participate in the development of return-to-work strategies.
  • Provide counselling to employees on health and wellness issues, and refer employees to appropriate resources.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of individualized disability and rehabilitation strategies, maintaining regular communication with employees to facilitate recovery and return-to-work readiness.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary return-to-work planning, engaging appropriate stakeholders to develop individualized plans; identify and address systemic barriers; and support departments in identifying suitable modified or transitional work while evaluating outcomes for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure claims are tracked, monitored, and analyzed, identifying trends and recommending or implementing appropriate corrective or preventative actions.
  • Assess employee accommodation requests by reviewing medical documentation, functional abilities information, and workplace requirements; collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop, implement, and monitor accommodation plans that support safe, suitable, preventative and productive accommodation.
  • Coordinate occupational fitness testing programs and return-to-work assessments; evaluate and interpret results to support employee health and safety, job suitability, regulatory compliance, and informed hiring and placement decisions.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, professional standards, and relevant legislation.
  • Act as a liaison and subject matter expert on health-related matters, facilitating effective communication between employees, healthcare providers, management, insurers, and union representatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, collective agreements, duties to accommodate and best practices, including human rights, abilities management, and occupational health and safety standards, ensuring consistent and compliant application.
