About The Position

Scientific Applications & Research Associates, Inc. (SARA) is seeking an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative EMP Field Technician I - II to support rapid manufacturing and testing activities in Colorado Springs, CO. The High-Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) team is at the forefront of radiated and conducted energy delivery systems. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to grow, lead, and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-term and new programs supporting the DoD, DoE, and their contractors. This role involves working under immediate supervision to perform various RF/EM test and measurement tasks for products, systems, components, or in-situ modifications to systems. It also includes assisting with field and laboratory preparation, execution, and post-test activities in support of MIL-STD-188-125-1/2 HEMP testing, such as shielding effectiveness measurements, pulsed current injection, and continuous-wave immersion. Additionally, the role supports various lab duties including testbed setup and fabrication, operation of high voltage equipment, and organization and maintenance of test equipment. This position is designed to build proficiency in EMP test methods, safe work practices, and field operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • 0 - 2 years of relevant technician, construction, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, maintenance, or test experience
  • Requires up to 40% travel (CONUS and OCONUS) in support of testing or other customer requirements
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to learn and consistently apply basic electrical and high-voltage safety practices
  • Ability to follow written procedures, drawings, checklists, and verbal instructions
  • Ability to manage changing work assignments, schedules, and priorities
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during extended work hours while traveling
  • Willingness to learn to operate a variety of machining equipment, mills, lathes, etc.
  • Willingness to learn welding skills
  • Interact effectively with all levels of staff, the public, and outside vendors
  • Clean driving record as defined by the state of Colorado with ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical certification
  • Basic computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and Email)
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance
  • May require Moderate physical effort, including standing, sitting, and use of hands while performing duties, and carrying or lifting up to 50 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • 2 - 5 years of relevant technician, construction, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, maintenance, or test experience
  • Hands-on experience in one or more trades, including electrical, carpentry, construction, automotive, machining, or fabrication
  • Experience with forklifts, scissor lifts, material handling
  • Experience with shop machines to include table saws, mills, drill presses, lathes, etc.
  • Experience constructing/maintaining/operating electrical equipment
  • Coursework, certification, or military experience related to electronics, electrical systems, mechanical systems, welding, or industrial technology
  • Current Class A driver’s license
  • Active DoD TS or DoE Q security clearance

Responsibilities

  • Provide entry-level engineering, fabrication, and maintenance support under direction
  • Assist with laboratory and field test setup, execution, teardown, and restoration
  • Constructing, maintaining, and testing electrical and mechanical systems, components, equipment, etc.
  • Assist with testing and modification of electronic systems using measuring and diagnostic tools
  • Document various procedures and designs
  • Assist with preparing, moving, and conducting project tests
  • Perform field test technician duties that include extended work hours (10+ hrs/day) on deployments ranging from 1 week to 4+ weeks – CONUS or OCONUS
  • Occasionally operate box trucks to safely transport test equipment to and from test locations (Across country)
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
