Engineer - Emerging Technology

Skanska USA•Los Angeles, CA

About The Position

The Emerging Technology Engineer builds and deploys custom software tools that bridge Skanska’s enterprise systems and project-specific workflows. Embedded on active civil projects in defined rotations, the engineer maps how work is performed, identifies high-value automation opportunities, and delivers working tools before moving to the next assignment. Deliverables include deployed software and a documented workflow map, packaged for adoption by other projects through a shared Skanska tool catalog. The role combines construction operations and IT, using AI-assisted development to create purpose-built tools. It may also involve evaluating and piloting emerging technologies such as reality capture, IoT, and machine learning when they address a measured project need. The engineer partners with project teams, operations leaders, and IT to ensure tools produce measurable time savings, integrate with existing systems of record, and follow company data governance practices. The role may require working from a jobsite trailer, attending field walks, wearing PPE, and collaborating with field teams.
