About The Position

The University of Toronto Mississauga Library invites applications from innovative and service-oriented librarians for the position of Emerging Technologies Librarian. Reporting to the Department Head, Digital Engagement and Research Services, the Emerging Technologies Librarian supports the use of emerging technologies in teaching, learning, research, and creative production. This role combines instruction, consultation, and project support with operational support for library-based makerspace technologies and the development of programming that advances digital, computational, and technological literacies across the UTM academic community. This individual will also be responsible for developing close, collaborative, and proactive relationships with faculty, staff, and key student groups within their liaison areas, and with UTM’s Information and Instructional Technology Services department.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library, archival or information science from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity, anti-racism and accessibility
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of technology in library services and the impacts of technology-enabled services on diverse user communities
  • Knowledge of makerspace and creative technologies and workflows, such as 3D printing, 3D modeling, virtual reality, or digital media production tools and methods
  • Demonstrated interest in and enthusiasm for emerging technologies as well and their applications in varied teaching and research contexts
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation, and communication skills
  • Outstanding service orientation and commitment to supporting patrons and colleagues
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity and ability to innovate and adapt to a changing environment
  • Knowledge of emerging trends in machine learning and artificial intelligence applications within academic libraries
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technological requirements with IT staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of computing infrastructure relevant to emerging technology services, including local, cloud, or institutionally managed environments

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and assess workshops, consultations, and instructional resources related to makerspace technologies, digital creation tools, and emerging technologies
  • Support the workflows and use of tools such as 3D printing, 3D modeling, virtual reality, digital storytelling, podcasting, and digital media production
  • Support the day-to-day operations of the Digital Exploration Lab and the Outer Circle Recording Studio
  • Design programming that connects makerspace activity to broader institutional priorities in digital literacy, experiential learning, and research support
  • Design, deliver, and assess curriculum-embedded instruction across one or more subject areas in partnership with faculty and Library colleagues
  • Develop collaborative and proactive relationships with faculty, staff, and key student groups within assigned liaison areas
  • Contribute to co-curricular programming and consultation services in AI fluency
  • Work closely with colleagues within the UTM Library and across the UTL system
  • Serve on library committees and working groups as necessary
