About The Position

The Emerging Store Manager (ESM) is a developmental leadership assignment within Walmart US store operations designed to prepare associates for potential Store Manager roles. The assignment is expected to last no longer than 12 to 18 months, with no guaranteed timeframe for advancement. Associates are expected to complete developmental milestones and competency assessments and maintain mobility within their assigned region to apply for and potentially be placed in a Store Manager position. If a Store Manager role is not secured within that period, next steps will depend on performance and business needs and may include placement in another role at a different level. The ESM trains and develops across retail operations, people leadership, merchandising, financial management, customer experience, and community engagement. The role supports store financial performance, sales and inventory execution, customer service, staffing and succession planning, community outreach, associate relations, management-team leadership, safety, asset protection, quality assurance, and implementation of business plans. The position also involves developing associates and managers, holding teams accountable to company policies, and collaborating with stakeholders across the organization. The annual salary range is $85,000 to $120,000, with additional annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Certain positions may also receive regional pay zone or complex-structure compensation. Walmart offers benefits including health coverage, financial benefits, paid time off and leave, disability coverage, discounts, education benefits, and other programs; eligibility and terms may vary by job classification and length of employment.
