About The Position

The ED Ward Clerk/ EMT works under the guidance/supervision of the staff nurses, ward clerk supervisor, and nurse managers. When working a Ward Clerk shift the primary role is to assist the department in preparing needed records for the care and treatment of patients, including but not limited to registrations and insurance verifications. They are also responsible for telephone communication, transfer documentation, and admit coordination. The Emergency Medical Technician shift is responsible for performing assigned duties within his/ her capabilities and under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. They will assist the Emergency department physicians and nurses in specified aspects of emergency patient treatment. They will also maintain effective interaction with the public and hospital personnel. The Dual role is expected to be flexible and professional at all times focusing on the role assigned for the shift but able to transition based on department needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • State of California or National Emergency Medical Technician certification required.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets all patients in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Takes patients directly back to beds upon arrival in the ED.
  • Obtains accurate, complete and correctly spelled records with information received from the patient and/or patient’s representative
  • Enters and updates all essential information into computer for patient registration
  • Upon patient admission, verifies the patient demographic and insurance information is current and correct and that the required forms are completed and signed.
  • Accurately scans patient’s driver’s license and insurance information into system.
  • Obtains travel insurance information and has patients complete the special forms.
  • Collects copays and payments.
  • Performs CPR in compliance with AHA.
  • Provides patient care within the scope of practice to include, but not limited to: Orthopedic appliance application, Wound cleansing, Vital signs, 12 lead EKGs, Bedside patient care, Point of care testing.
  • Actively participates in safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment for all patients.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
