About The Position

Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Emergency Veterinarian Mentee to join our collaborative, team-focused hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. As a busy 24-hour, multi-specialty, and emergency referral hospital, we offer an incredible opportunity to thrive in a high-level setting while making a meaningful impact on patient care. The Ethos ER Immerse Training Program is a 6-month training and mentorship program designed to prepare veterinarians for a sustainable and satisfying career in emergency medicine. It focuses on core competencies, client and team member communication, professional skills, and life/work integration, utilizing a hybrid training approach with simulation and live patient experiences. Following the training, there is a 1-year commitment as an ER clinician.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a 6-month training and mentorship program focused on emergency medicine.
  • Develop clinical knowledge and skills essential for an emergency veterinarian.
  • Enhance client and team member communication skills.
  • Integrate professional skills and life/work balance strategies.
  • Engage in simulation-based didactic components and authentic training experiences with live patients.
  • Attend daily case rounds with board-certified specialists, ER clinicians, and technicians.
  • Complete asynchronous learning on Vetbloom and participate in weekly live virtual didactic rounds.
  • Attend regular live continuing education events led by specialists and experienced emergency doctors.
  • Work a 5-day work week consisting of 4 clinical days, 1 didactic day, and 2 days off each week.
  • Mirror the schedule of a paired mentor for the first 3 months.
  • Transition to swing shifts after month 3, depending on comfort level.
  • Receive surgical training with board-certified surgeons.
  • Commit to 1 year as an ER clinician following the training program.
