EmERge Emergency Veterinarian Mentorship Training Program
About The Position
BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital is offering the emERge program, an Emergency Veterinarian training program designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and confidence to excel as an Emergency Veterinarian in their state-of-the-art hospitals. This full-time position is split between the Skokie and Northfield locations. The program is ideal for veterinary school graduates or current veterinarians seeking a career change who have a sincere interest in emergency veterinary medicine, enjoy thinking on their feet, and are eager to learn and lead. The emERge program combines online modules, interactive seminars, labs, mentoring, and hands-on practice experience, preparing participants for their first solo emergency shift. Participants will be paid a salary from their first day.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited veterinary school (DVM or VMD).
- Sincere interest in becoming an Emergency Veterinarian.
- Eagerness to think on your feet and handle challenging cases.
- Willingness to learn and lead by example in the emergency veterinary industry.
- Completion of an internship is required for application to a residency (this program does not replace or substitute an internship).
- Commitment of two years, including the initial year of training.

Responsibilities
- Build foundational emergency medicine skills through bootcamp training.
- Gain exposure to various specialties to enhance understanding and collaboration.
- Apply training in a real-world setting under mentorship during ER shifts.
- Transition to managing more complex cases with greater independence.
- Work full shifts in the ER, developing critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Participate in ongoing mentorship for case review and skill refinement.
- Handle a variety of emergency cases to broaden expertise and build confidence.
- Participate in weekly webinar series on emergency veterinary medicine.
- Take on full responsibility for managing emergency cases.
- Work alongside the hospital team to provide exceptional patient care.
- Apply advanced diagnostic and procedural skills to handle high-acuity cases.
- Maintain access to mentor guidance for continued growth and support.
