About The Position

The Emergency Vehicle Technician diagnoses malfunctions and repairs emergency vehicles; advises and trains lower grade workers on diagnosis and repair of less complex repair/maintenance problems; inspects and approves completed maintenance actions; and solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications. The Emergency Vehicle Technician uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends; analyze equipment requirements; maintain equipment records and document maintenance actions. The Emergency Vehicle Technician also analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs emergency vehicles and associated equipment using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Formal documented training and a minimum of five years of documented emergency vehicle repair experience
  • Provide documentation as to the current level of EVT certification
  • Able to complete and maintain at least level III EVT certification
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Able to obtain/maintain licenses on military vehicles, both tactical and non-tactical
  • Able to obtain and maintain a common access card (access to installation)
  • Demonstrated understanding of Safety and OSHA Laws & Regulations
  • Able to lift on an occasional basis a maximum of 70 pounds with frequent or constant lifting of 40 pounds
  • Able to climb in and out of emergency vehicles and related equipment
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to work in cramped areas for extended periods of time
  • Able to work in all types of weather conditions including intense heat, heavy wind, heavy rain, and snow or sleet
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to work in a shop where the environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Class A CDL is preferred but not required
