About The Position

The Emergency Vehicle Technician Supervisor is part of the Tucson Fire Fleet Management Division, a team dedicated to providing service solutions that exceed our customers’ expectations. With a specialized fleet of emergency response vehicles, the Tucson Fire Department provides the latest technologies, training, and industry certification opportunities to keep the fleet management team and the fleet at the forefront of the industry. The Emergency Vehicle Technician Supervisor plans, coordinates and supervises the daily activities and work assignments of the technicians and staff involved in the repair and maintenance of the Fire Department’s apparatus, ambulances and support equipment. Workflow is based on Tucson Fire Department policies, manufacturer requirements, and applicable NFPA standards.

Requirements

• 6 months post high school and 4 years of directly related experience
• 4 years of recent, relevant experience in supervision, management, or in a lead position in related field(s)
• Valid and Unrestricted Class D operators license
• Ability to lift equipment and materials up to 75lbs
• Completion of the City of Tucson Supervisor Training Program after hire
• Section 609 Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certification within 30 days of hire
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment
• Ability to work shift work if needed
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and after-hours as needed

Responsibilities

• Supervises, schedules, and evaluates repair and maintenance tasks for multiple employees on an assigned shift.
• Sets priorities, monitors workflow, conducts quality inspections, and assesses equipment performance.
• Coordinates statutory inspections, facilitates safety meetings, and oversees safety-related activities.
• Leads daily meetings to review workflows.
• Provides safety training and instruction on new vehicle technologies for efficient and safe maintenance and repairs.
• Manages weekly on-call schedules to ensure after-hours vehicle availability.
• Prepares preventive maintenance and fleet status reports using various programs.
• Manages work orders, including opening, closing, and assigning tasks based on customer requests.
• Ensures work area cleanliness, addresses safety concerns, and manages vehicle recalls.
• Schedules and assigns preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs for vehicles and equipment.
• Reviews results from emissions tests, oil analysis, ladder inspections, and pump tests.
• Coordinates with vendors on estimates and outsourced maintenance, repairs, and rebuilds.
• Supports recruitment and hiring processes, recommends disciplinary and corrective actions, and fosters positive department morale through leadership and guidance.
• Conducts employee performance evaluations.
• Collaborates with the Superintendent and City HR to address personnel issues.
• Manages employee timekeeping by approving timecards, leave requests, and schedules.
• Ensures compliance by approving certifications and tracking skill-based tiers.
• Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned
