About The Position

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing preventative and minor repairs on emergency vehicles. Exercises no supervision. Work Location San Antonio Fire Department - 230 S. Callaghan San Antonio, TX 78227 Work Hours 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and/or 9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m., Monday - Friday; rotating on call availability as scheduled based on departmental needs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience performing essential job functions listed above which could include experience gained through a technical training program.
  • Must obtain Texas "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within ninety (90) days of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance work including changing oil and other fluids, greasing joints, and replacing oil and air filters on emergency vehicles.
  • Performs minor repair work on alternators, brakes, belts, hoses, starters, and windshield wipers; performs other maintenance duties, frequently lifting and carrying equipment or parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Completes paperwork required for work orders.
  • Conducts safety checks on all emergency vehicles.
  • Assists in repairs and adjustments to emergency vehicles including air conditioning and electrical system repairs.
  • Assists higher level mechanics on project work.
  • Operates and transports vehicles of all types to work locations or repair vendors.
  • Performs inventory, monitors check out/check in of parts, and identifies salvageable parts.
  • May repair or change tires and wash emergency vehicles, as needed.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
