About The Position
The Emergency Tech II works under the direction of a registered nurse to provide direct patient care while considering patients’ age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs. The role demonstrates unit- or area-designated competencies and helps maintain a clean, safe care environment that supports patient and family well-being. Training is provided. The position is in the Chelsea Hospital Emergency Department, which provides emergency care around the clock and treats more than 18,000 patients annually. The department has a five-bay observation center and 20 private exam rooms. The position is part time and benefit eligible for 48 hours per pay period, every two weeks. The available shift is 5 p.m. to 5 a.m., with every-third-weekend and holiday rotation required.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or a minimum age of 18 years.
- Recent training or experience with phlebotomy and starting IVs.
- Experience working in an Emergency Department or in Emergency Response.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing care delegated by a registered nurse to help identify and attain treatment goals.
- Apply support and orthopedic devices such as splints, crutches, and slings.
- Obtain routine vital signs, pain scores, and temperatures.
- Apply warm or cold therapies, including warm blankets, ice packs, and warm soaks.
- Provide routine oxygen therapy and pulse oximetry.
- Assist in preparing the body following death.
- Answer call lights promptly.
- Assist with quality indicators, including crash cart integrity checks, refrigerator temperature logs, Accu-Chek quality controls, and urine dipstick controls.
- Help establish and maintain a clean, safe environment conducive to patient and family well-being.
- Provide direct patient care with consideration for age-specific, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
