Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • One (1) year experience in a medical office or professional environment with high volume required.
  • Demonstrated skills in organization and prioritization required.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and telephone etiquette required.
  • Current and ongoing BLS certification required.
  • Must attend hospital crisis training program within three (3) months of hire or transfer and annually thereafter.
  • Frequent standing and walking, with intermittent sitting at desk.
  • Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility.
  • Some exposure to disagreeable elements.
  • The work area is essentially open with various activities taking place around the worker, creating distraction.
  • May be exposed to unpleasant patient elements.
  • Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks.
  • Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment.
  • Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking.
  • Ability to lift 10 lbs.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks.
  • Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations.
  • May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
  • Works indoors, with considerable public contacts.
  • Work area is centrally located with many various activities taking place, creating distractions to the worker.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced education in business, medical, or secretarial studies is preferred.
  • Medical Terminology experience preferred
  • Computer proficiency preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assembling, maintaining and logging all Emergency Department patient records.
  • Serving as the department receptionist; receiving, screening, routing, scanning, faxing/e-faxing and taking messages.
  • Maintaining an adequate stock of supplies for the department.
