SOVAH Health – Martinsville is a full-service, acute-care hospital providing over 22 medical specialties. Among the services offered are a home health & hospice agency, an advanced wound healing center, a cardiac rehabilitation center, two cardiac catheterization labs, and medical & radiation oncology services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly under stressful or emergency situations.
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling with the ability to work all shift patterns, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuity of care and nursing coverage for the patients of Sovah Health Martinsville on all units.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduated from an approved EMT Intermediate program preferred.
  • CNA licensure, or CNA eligible.
  • Certified Nursing Aide license is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and visitors. Answers, screens, and routes telephone calls.
  • Calls codes, pages, and overhead announcements as requested.
  • Enters nursing requests subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary.
  • Assists with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.
  • Performs needed clerical tasks, including copying, filing, and ordering/stocking supplies.
  • Assists RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.
  • Performs continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
  • Identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress and intervenes appropriately. Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
  • Reports abnormal assessment and telemetry findings or changes in patient physical, mental, and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Tests equipment for proper working order. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.
  • Other tasks that may be assigned.
