About The Position

The Fresno Police Department (FPD) is seeking energetic, organized, and dependable individuals who are committed to being a part of a vigorous law enforcement agency. The selected candidate will be expected to answer in-bound calls with emphasis on high quality customer service. The incumbents receive training in answering and evaluating emergency police, fire, and medical service calls, and operating a multi-channel Computer-Assisted Dispatch (CAD) system console and related equipment to dispatch appropriate public safety units. Duties also include, but are not limited to, performing record checks for officers in the field, keeping records of all police units available, and responding to requests. Position reports to the Emergency Services Communications Supervisor. Must have the ability to operate radio communications equipment and type at a speed necessary for timely completion of assigned duties. An Emergency Services Dispatcher I may be flexed to an Emergency Services Dispatcher II ($5,809 - $6,974/mo.) at the discretion of management within the first eighteen months of employment. Flexing is contingent upon successful completion of the Emergency Services Dispatcher Training Program and certification by the Police Department verifying that the incumbent is capable of performing the duties of an Emergency Services Dispatcher II. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent GED completion
  • One year of work experience.
  • Ability to operate radio communications equipment.
  • Ability to type at a speed necessary for timely completion of assigned duties.
