About The Position

At CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs, the Emergency Room Technician supports safe, cost-efficient patient care in the Emergency Department by performing functions delegated by an RN or physician. The role conducts selected diagnostic measures and procedures, assists with patient transport and lifting, and provides clerical and cleaning support to the unit. The technician executes delegated tasks, supports unit operations, and contributes to a safe and efficient care environment.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification, upon hire.
Iowa Certified Nursing Assistant certification, upon hire.

Nice To Haves

High school graduate with General Studies, upon hire, or a GED in General Studies, upon hire.

Responsibilities

Provides direct patient care as delegated by the RN and medical staff.
Monitors and records vital signs, observes patients’ physical, mental, and emotional condition, and reports changes to nursing or medical staff.
Provides indirect patient care, including escorting patients to exam rooms and performing and documenting general therapeutic and diagnostic measures.
Transports patients and assists with lifting.
Assists with updating the Emergency Department Tracking Board/Care Manager (EDTB).
Acts as a unit clerk and uses hospital information systems according to hospital policy.
Discharges patients and enters patient charges in a timely manner.
Uses the EDTB to improve patient flow and performs order data entry as assigned by a nurse or physician.
Communicates accurately, courteously, and professionally with patients, families, physicians, other departments, unit personnel, and peers.
Demonstrates commitment to patients, nursing staff, and the Emergency Department in accordance with team performance expectations.
Provides general clerical and cleaning support to the unit.
