About The Position

The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties. This includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education. The ER Tech will triage all patients upon arrival to determine their location of treatment (Emergency room versus urgent care), provide general patient care including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention, and provide age and education-specific education to all patients. They will assure a clean work environment, which may include duties often reserved for housekeeping services, such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters. The ER Tech must follow all company policies, including HIPAA policies and procedures, and encourage a work environment that is friendly and respectful. They will provide patients and their families with a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring, and open environment that encourages patient participation in health care decisions. The ER Tech must accurately interpret a physician’s instructions and assist the physician on duty with the treatment of patients. They will communicate with the physician regarding the patient's needs and client feedback, and the operations coordinator's observation. The ER Tech will administer medications, collect specimens and conduct laboratory tests, and review and uphold lab policies and procedures. They will collaborate with health team members to ensure the patient's well-being and support the efforts of team members. The ER Tech will execute physician orders, including administration of medications, treatments, and IVs according to policy and procedure, and observe and document the patient's response to pertinent medications. They will prepare specimens and operate lab equipment, and review and uphold lab policies and procedures. Additionally, the ER Tech must complete 100% attendance at mandatory skills training yearly, maintain all required professional certifications and licenses, participate in any and all certifications of the facility, maintain CEU’s, complete yearly assigned education on time, and attend a minimum of four staff meetings and read and sign all minutes of meetings not attended. Patient education and discharge instructions are also a key responsibility, as is following infection control and OSHA safety guidelines. The ER Tech must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to inside environmental conditions, such as radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood borne diseases, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, odors, gases and dusts. This position does require working near moving mechanical parts and being exposed to toxic or caustic materials. This position would require moderate noise from phones, computers, printers and medical equipment. The position does require standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, and reaching. The position may also require climbing, kneeling or crouching. Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call).

  • MA, CNA, CMA, LVN, NCT, EMT-P, EMT-B certification or diploma
  • Current BLS & ACLS certification
  • Completion of company provided laboratory testing education and competency
