About The Position

The ER Tech is responsible for all basic patient care duties. This includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic treatment as ordered by the physician on duty, operation of laboratory equipment, patient discharge, and education. The ER Tech will triage all patients upon arrival to determine their location of treatment (Emergency room versus urgent care), provide general patient care including therapeutic and diagnostic intervention, and provide age and education-specific education to all patients. The role also involves assuring a clean work environment, which may include duties often reserved for housekeeping services, such as emptying trash, mopping floors, and cleaning counters. The ER Tech must follow all company policies, including HIPAA policies and procedures, and encourage a work environment that is friendly and respectful. They will provide patients and their families with a customer-focused, friendly, reassuring, and open environment that encourages patient participation in health care decisions. The ER Tech must accurately interpret a physician’s instructions and assist the physician on duty with the treatment of patients. Communication with the physician regarding patient needs and client feedback, and with the operations coordinator's observation is essential. The role includes administering medications, collecting specimens, and conducting laboratory tests, while reviewing and upholding lab policies and procedures. Collaboration with health team members is crucial to ensure patient well-being, evidenced by staff/client feedback, and supporting the efforts of team members. The ER Tech will execute physician orders, including administration of medications, treatments, and IVs according to policy and procedure, and observe and document the patient's response to pertinent medications. Preparing specimens and operating lab equipment are also key responsibilities. The position requires 100% attendance at mandatory skills training yearly, maintaining all required professional certifications and licenses, and participating in facility certifications. Maintaining CEUs and completing yearly assigned education on time are required. Attending a minimum of four staff meetings and reading/signing minutes of meetings not attended is necessary. Patient education and discharge instructions are part of the role, as is following infection control and OSHA safety guidelines. The physical demands include intermittent physical activity, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting/supporting patients. The employee may be exposed to radiation, noise, infectious/communicable diseases, blood and blood borne diseases, chemicals, fumes, odors, gases, dusts, moving mechanical parts, and toxic or caustic materials. The work environment has moderate noise from phones, computers, printers, and medical equipment. The position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, and reaching, and may also require climbing, kneeling, or crouching. Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need, which may include rotating shifts, standby, or on-call duties. High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

MA, CNA, CMA, LVN, NCT, EMT-P, EMT-B certification or diploma
Current BLS required at hire
ACLS required within 30 days
Completion of company provided laboratory testing education and competency
