About The Position

The Emergency Response Technician is responsible for supporting Fire Prevention and Protection activities at IMTT. This role involves responding to various emergencies including chemical handling, PPE issues, general terminal Emergency Management, firefighting, spills, and rescues. The technician will also address employee concerns related to life safety, maintain and check fire equipment daily, and report any deficiencies to the IMTT Deputy Chief of Operations. Regular emergency response training and drills are required, as is the maintenance and oversight of response equipment, including testing, calibration, and recordkeeping. The position also includes assisting with confined space entries and stand-by, and maintaining knowledge of applicable OSHA, NFPA, and EPA regulations. The role reports to the Deputy Chief of Operation or Chief of Department in their absence.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT’s terminal locations.
  • Firefighter 2
  • Fire Official
  • NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, ICS 300, and 400.
  • Fire Instructor 1
  • Valid CPR/First Aid
  • Haz-Mat Technician Level 3
  • Good Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and USCG Codes
  • Record of regulatory, health, and safety training
  • First Responder or EMR
  • Confined Space Rescue Technician
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.
  • Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
  • Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments.
  • Ability to type.
  • Phone and personal etiquette.
  • Must be neat, detail oriented, organized, conscientious, and thorough.
  • Must be an assertive self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Must have working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Must be able to work in a demanding team environment that is challenging and sometimes stressful work environment.
  • Must have two (2) years’ experience responding to hazmat, fire, and medical emergencies.
  • Must be able to meet the minimum ERT Physical Requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in an industrial facility is preferred.
  • Cross training and experience in other emergency response functions is strongly desired.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to everyday activities concerning chemical handling, PPE, and general terminal Emergency Management issues.
  • Respond to firefighting, spills, and rescues.
  • Respond to employee concerns and issues for life safety.
  • Maintain and daily check of all fire equipment at the start of each work day.
  • Report all short comings to the IMTT Deputy Chief of Operations at the Bayonne terminal.
  • Conduct or attend regular emergency response training and drills involving on-site and off-site as needed.
  • Maintain and oversee response equipment, testing, calibrations, and recordkeeping as needed.
  • Assist in confined space entries and confined space entry stand-by as needed.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable OSHA, NFPA, and EPA regulations.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations in the absences of the Fire Chief.
  • Be knowledgeable with NIMS and ICS models.
  • Meet the minimum ERT Physical Requirements.
