The Emergency Response Technician is responsible for supporting Fire Prevention and Protection activities at IMTT. Responsibilities include responding to everyday activities concerning chemical handling, PPE, and general terminal Emergency Management issues, such as firefighting, spills, and rescues, as well as responding to employee concerns and issues for life safety. The role involves maintaining and daily checking of all fire equipment, reporting short comings to the IMTT Deputy Chief of Operations, and conducting or attending regular emergency response training and drills. The technician will also maintain and oversee response equipment, testing, calibrations, and recordkeeping, assist in confined space entries and stand-by, and maintain working knowledge of applicable OSHA, NFPA, and EPA regulations. This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Operation or Chief of Department in his absence and requires the individual to be neat, detail-oriented, organized, conscientious, and thorough. An assertive self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and direction, with good communication skills (written and oral) and some working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Power Point, is essential. The role demands the ability to work in a demanding team environment that is challenging and sometimes stressful. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience responding to hazmat, fire, and medical emergencies is required, with cross-training and experience in other emergency response functions being strongly desired. The ability to obtain and maintain OSHA HAZWOPER certification and knowledge of NIMS and ICS models are necessary. The position also requires meeting the minimum ERT Physical Requirements.
