Emergency Preparedness Internship - UNPAID

About The Position

Under general supervision of the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, the intern will perform research to develop local all-hazards plans for High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID), Volunteer Management, Arbovirus diseases, and Medical Countermeasures, Mass Casualty/Fatality management. The intern will identify how to fulfill or obtain resources essential to a local Health Department response. Research may require contact with regional agencies, county and city responders, and other jurisdictions in the state.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two personal and two professional letters of recommendation
  • Class C driver’s license.
  • Clear Criminal History required.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of college in Public Health, Emergency Management or closely related field.
  • HIPPA Certification – May gain once employed.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research on best practices related to Community Preparedness
  • Assists in the writing and formatting of plans.
  • Collects and assembles data on Hays County and regional demographics.
  • Communicates and coordinates with other county/state/federal entities.
  • Identifies Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) event considerations.
  • Assists in the data entry of immunization records into ImmTrac and/or TWICES.
  • Establishes activation and demobilization procedures.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with the general public, inter-departmental staff, outside agency staff, and officials via telephone, electronic transmittals and in person.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
