About The Position

This is a temporary, full-time position for 6 months, with the possibility of extension, and is benefits-eligible. The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator will oversee the Emergency Operations Center, computer-based physical access control systems, and the security camera system. This role involves monitoring alerts, overseeing repairs for security system outages, maintaining electronic reports, participating in security training, and developing familiarity with campus layout. Additionally, the position serves as a Security Specialist Support, acting as a backup for payroll administration, filling shifts as needed, responding to clerical support requests, overseeing campus parking procedures, providing training for new security employees, and serving as backup for the Emergency Response Team. Responsibilities also include general security patrols, ensuring building and gate security, regulating traffic, ensuring pedestrian safety, staying attentive to campus activity, checking security of doors and gates, and responding to security violations. The role also involves providing a visible presence at special events, checking the events logbook, securing doors and gates, and directing traffic and parking control.

Requirements

  • Prior military, law enforcement, 911 operator, security, or similar relevant experience
  • Training and certification to legally carry a firearm in the State of Georgia
  • A comprehensive understanding of Emergency Operations Center functions
  • A comprehensive understanding of Emergency Response Plan development
  • Minimum age of 25
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Willingness to work overtime for after-hours events, as needed or directed
  • Strong cognitive, oral, and written communication skills
  • A professional, steady presence with the school community, including in high-stress situations
  • A positive, helpful attitude
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands from wrist to finger, reach with hands, and talk or hear.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Post-offer drug (hair) test and background check

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Emergency Operations Center
  • Oversee computer-based physical access control systems and the security camera system
  • Monitor alerts for open doors across campus
  • Oversee repairs for security system service outages
  • Maintain accurate electronic reports and logs of monthly inspections
  • Participate in and successfully complete required security-related training
  • Develop familiarity with the geographical and tactical layout of campus
  • Take on other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety and Security, based on the School's dynamic needs
  • Serve as backup to the Director for payroll administration - timesheets, time-off requests, and payroll deadlines
  • Fill shifts and add coverage as needed as a backup for the Director
  • Respond to requests from the Director and perform clerical support as needed
  • Oversee campus parking procedures
  • Provide orientation and ongoing training for new security employees beyond initial onboarding
  • Serve as backup to the Director for the Emergency Response Team
  • Patrol grounds and buildings, on foot and by vehicle, to protect against damage, theft, or harm
  • Ensure building and gate security
  • Regulate vehicle traffic and maintain orderly flow and control
  • Ensure pedestrian safety at school crossways
  • Stay attentive to activity in and around classrooms and buildings
  • Check doors, windows, and gates to confirm they're secure
  • Respond quickly and effectively to security violations and reports of violations
  • Conduct or assist with security investigations and write related reports
  • Provide a visible presence at special events and functions
  • Check the events logbook daily
  • Secure doors and gates as necessary
  • Direct traffic and manage parking control
