Emergency Medicine Physician
About The Position
This is a locum tenens position for an Emergency Medicine Physician in Kaplan, LA. The role involves providing clinical coverage in a hospital setting with a flexible schedule. The physician will be responsible for the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of adult and pediatric patients in the Emergency Department, which sees approximately 6,800 annual visits. The department has 20 hospital beds and 6 ED beds, with a Level 4 Acuity trauma designation. The physician will utilize the Epic EMR system and collaborate with available specialty backup services including Physical Therapy, Rehab Unit, and Psychiatric Unit. Coverage is clinical only and is required from 08/16/2026 onwards.
Requirements
- Active unrestricted Louisiana Medical License and Louisiana Controlled Substance Registration
- BC/BE in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
- Active DEA with Louisiana address
- ACLS required; ATLS and PALS required if not EM trained
- Completion of approved EM, FM, or IM residency training
- Supervising Physician License with Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
- Procedural Sedation Version 2 course required if not Board Certified in EM
- Previous 2 years of case logs
- Previous 2 years of CME documentation

Responsibilities
- Provide emergency medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment
- Deliver coverage within a 24-hour physician staffing model
- Perform moderate and deep sedation procedures as required
- Document patient encounters in Epic EMR
- Collaborate with hospital staff and specialty services to coordinate patient care
