About The Position

We are seeking an Emergency Medicine Physician for a locum tenens position in Pennington Gap, VA. This role involves providing clinical coverage in the hospital's Emergency Department, which sees approximately 12,000 annual visits. The physician will be responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients, performing emergency stabilization, and completing documentation within the Epic EMR system. A key responsibility includes supervising Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician Assistants (PA) in accordance with facility requirements. This is a full-time, ongoing position starting in August 2026, with 12-hour shifts.

Requirements

• Active Unrestricted Virginia Medical License
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or Internal Medicine
• Active DEA with Virginia Address and Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5
• ACLS, ATLS, and PALS Required if Not Board Certified in Emergency Medicine; NRP Required for Non-ABEM Providers
• Graduate of an Accredited MD or DO Program
• Completion of an ACGME/AOA Approved EM, FM, or IM Residency
• ECFMG Required for Foreign Medical Graduates
• Case Logs for Previous 2 Years Required
• Documentation of Special Procedure Training Required if Applicable
• Preeclampsia CME Required for Initial Application and Every Two Years for Reappointment
• Must Meet Supervising Physician Requirements for NP and PA Oversight

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency department physician coverage
