About The Position

This is an ongoing coverage need for an Emergency Medicine Physician in Bedford, PA, and Altoona, PA. The practice setting involves night and weekend coverage with an average annual patient volume of 19,000, averaging 51 patients per 24 hours. The physician will work alongside Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and admissions will be coordinated through Hospitalist and Specialties Groups. Procedures include intubations, chest tubes, central lines, joint and fracture reductions, joint aspirations, laceration repair, and I&D. Vent management is not required. The position is for an independent contractor (1099) role.

Requirements

  • Active Pennsylvania licensure
  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA
  • AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year Emergency Medicine experience or equivalent
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Residency training program in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in Pennsylvania

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive medical care to patients across a variety of clinical settings, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions
  • Conduct thorough patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments
  • Order, interpret, and review diagnostic testing including laboratory work, imaging, and other studies as appropriate
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment and care plans based on patient needs and evidence-based practices
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions within scope of practice
  • Manage ongoing patient care, including follow-up evaluations and coordination of treatment plans
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity and quality of care
  • Document patient encounters, treatment plans, and clinical findings accurately and in compliance with facility standards
  • Respond to patient concerns and provide education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive care
  • Maintain compliance with facility policies, credentialing requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
  • Adapt quickly to new clinical environments, workflows, and electronic medical record systems
  • Stay current on medical advancements, clinical guidelines, and best practices through continuing medical education and professional development
