About The Position

The primary duty of the APP is to care for observation patients admitted from the Emergency Department (ED) to the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU). These patients are admitted under fairly restrictive protocols and are expected to be treated and discharged within 24 hours of admission. Duties also include caring for undifferentiated patients in the Emergency Department setting.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 2 years APRN experience in an acute care setting -OR - recently licensed APRN with 5 years experience in an acute care setting as an RN.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Arkansas
  • APRN License
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to operate all typical nursing equipment essential to performing the job (i.e., scales, procedure equipment, needles, blood pressure equipment, and EKG machines).
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirement.
  • Ability to comply with CDC Universal Precautions when indicated.
  • Prescriptive authority and DEA license must be obtained after hire.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including obtaining medical histories and conducting physical examinations.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests and laboratory results.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on patient assessment findings.
  • Perform emergency procedures within scope of practice and organizational guidelines.
  • Prescribe medications and treatments as authorized by state regulations and medical staff privileges.
  • Collaborate with emergency physicians and healthcare team members to coordinate patient care.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and timely within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations and rapidly changing patient conditions
  • Perform other duties as needed.
