About The Position

This is a Locum Tenens Emergency Medicine Physician position located in Whiteville, NC, within an Emergency Department at a hospital. The coverage is clinical only, starting June 5, 2026, and is ongoing, with variable shifts including days and nights. The role involves providing care to patients of all ages, with an approximate annual volume of 24,000 visits. Admissions and phone consults are included, and the case mix consists of general emergency medicine cases. The department has 12 ED beds, including 5 fast track beds, and uses the Cerner EMR system. Standard ED equipment is available. There is limited subspecialty support, but 24-hour physician coverage is provided, along with 20–24 hours of NP/PA coverage. This position is for supplemental coverage.

Requirements

• Active NC license required
• BC/BE in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine
• Active NC DEA required
• ACLS, PALS, ATLS required (if not ABEM)
• Recent graduates accepted
• Must be comfortable with full-scope ED privileges

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency department care for all patient presentations
• Manage patient care independently during shifts
• Collaborate with NP/PA support staff
• Coordinate care with available specialty services
• Maintain accurate documentation in Cerner EMR
• Perform general emergency medicine procedures
