About The Position

The Emergency Medical Technician/Primary Care Paramedic is responsible for responding to emergent and non-emergent calls for service; provides initial assessment, treatment and transport of ill or injured persons at the basic life support level. Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Primary Care Paramedic Certificate from an approved educational institute
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license
  • Automated External Defibrillator Certificate (AED)
  • Registered Emergency Medical Technician/Primary Care Paramedic (EMT/PCP)
  • International Trauma Life Support Certificate (ITLS)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR)
  • Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
  • Familiar with the SK Ministry of Health Ambulance Information System.
  • Ability to exhibit situational awareness
  • Demonstrates the ability to be resourceful and to adapt to changing conditions
  • Physically able to perform the duties of pre-hospital emergency care
  • Ability to be resilient
  • Decision making through the application of knowledge and critical thinking
  • Able to safely and consistently lift/stretcher on a regular basis
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive approach to deal with challenging situations with empathy and sincerity
  • Knowledge of legislation, protocols & scope of practice applicable to EMS in SK
  • Ability to function effectively in high stress and in emergency situations
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Conflict resolution skills to effectively handle difficult issues
  • Decision making through the application of clinical, legal & ethical practice
  • Be physically fit and able to perform duties as outlined
  • Registered/eligible with the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics at PCP/EMT level
