Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together. The Emergency Medical Technician will assist in the care of the patient by following through on provider orders for treatments. Individual may be responsible for taking the patient’s vital signs. May also be responsible for overseeing and participating in the day-to-day clinic care of patients.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
  • Current Oregon EMT license in good standing
  • Current NREMT certification
  • Healthcare provider level CPR/BLS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, NCCT, NHA/CCMA, AMT/RMA, or equivalent approved credential
  • 2+ years of relevant patient care, EMT, ambulatory care, or medical assistant experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment; documents chief complaint and visit-related information in the Electronic Medical Record
  • Obtains and accurately records patient histories, medication/allergy information as assigned, vital signs, and other intake information within documented competency
  • Assists licensed providers with patient exams, procedures, and collection or processing of specimens as assigned and within training, competency, and policy
  • Performs approved clinic support tasks such as rooming patients, preparing exam rooms, stocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and preparing instruments for examinations, testing, or minor procedures
  • Retrieves laboratory, diagnostic, and radiology results and routes or communicates information according to provider direction and clinic protocol
  • Communicates provider-approved instructions to patients, including follow-up steps, scheduling instructions, and treatment plan information, without independent medical judgment, interpretation, diagnosis, or prescribing
  • Responds to incoming phone calls, patient portal messages, and in-clinic requests according to workflow; routes clinical questions to the appropriate licensed provider or clinical resource
  • Performs point-of-care or CLIA-waived testing only after required training, competency verification, and according to manufacturer instructions and Optum policy
  • May administer immunizations, injections, or medications only when permitted by applicable law and Optum policy, specifically delegated by an authorized provider, verified as required, appropriately supervised, and supported by documented training and competency. Duties involving medication administration must not require independent medical judgment
  • Responds calmly to urgent/emergent clinic situations, initiates Basic Life Support/CPR within certification, and assists licensed clinical personnel according to clinic emergency response protocols
  • Maintains patient confidentiality, infection prevention standards, accurate documentation, and professional communication with patients, providers, team members, and the public
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are consistent with the role, documented competency, delegated authority, and applicable policy
