About The Position

The Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT) performs interfacility transports from Johnson County Hospital and the surrounding communities. The EMT also assists nursing staff in providing patient care within the facility. The EMT reports to the EMS Coordinator and provides in-facility care under the direction of a hospitalist and nursing staff. Interfacility care is provided in accordance with the Nebraska State Model Protocols. The hospital does not operate as a primary 911 response service.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Current State of Nebraska EMT-B license.
Valid driver's license.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Nice To Haves

NREMT certification.
EVOC course.

Responsibilities

Perform patient care within the full scope of an EMT Basic as defined by the Nebraska State Model Protocols.
Assist nursing staff and paramedics in stabilizing patients in the Emergency Department.
Prepare and transport patients safely during interfacility transfers, monitor their conditions, and promptly report changes.
Perform intake procedures, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, medication histories, and allergies.
Assist nursing staff with patient hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
Prepare and maintain clean, organized exam rooms.
Collect laboratory specimens and perform EKGs as directed by medical staff.
Document patient care accurately and promptly in electronic health records.
Collaborate with nursing staff and paramedics to support seamless patient care transitions.
Maintain equipment and supply inventory, including BLS and ALS supplies, and remain accountable for medications on every EMS unit.
Assist with vehicle, equipment, and station maintenance, public education, public relations, and emergency medical service training.
Participate in continuing education and maintain required certifications.
